VISCII Fonts for TeX and LaTeX
One can use Vietnamese with 8-bit versions of TeX or LaTex, i.e., one needs TeX version pi (3.141…) or LaTeX version e (2.718…). All that is needed is a utility that allows typing Vietnamese letters (such as a Vietnamese keyboard driver or Vietnamese editor) and Vietnamese Metafonts.
Free Vietnamese keyboard drivers are available for DOS, Windows 3.1/95, Unix, and Mac. Free Vietnamese Metafonts, named vncmr fonts, are also available. The first version of vncmr was designed by Cuong T. Nguyen and was released 1991. Werner Lemberg fixed some bugs and added support for MacVISCII and released it in May 1996.
- vncmr.mf.tar.Z (90 Kb) — Metafont program files to generate Vietnamese fonts for use under TeX/LaTeX in both Unix and DOS. Author: Cuong T. Nguyen. Released 1991.
- vncmr.pk.tar.Z (2364 Kb) — pre-made bitmapped fonts generated by the Metafont programs in vncmr.mf.tar.Z. Author: Cuong T. Nguyen. Released 1991.
These two packages as well as other related files are archived at haydn.stanford.edu under /VN/sources/fonts/tex/. - vncmr-2.2.tar.gz — metafonts supporting both VISCII and MacVISCII.
