Vietnamese VISCII Fonts for Unix & X-Windows

Bitmapped Fonts

Currently the following X-Windows bdf (bitmap distribution format) fonts are available:

vn10x20.bdf,
vnlutRS18.bdf: designed by Vu~ V. Thu+
etl16-viscii1.bdf designed by Takahashi N.
etl24-viscii.bdf, etl24-viscii1.bdf designed by K. Handa and Takahashi N.
Rom14-VN.bdf: designed by Phu`ng Gia Cu+
vn9x15.bdf, vn-r14.bdf designed by TriChlor
vn6x13.bdf designed by Hung Bui
vn16x30.bdf designed by B.T. Vu

These fonts are packaged in Xfonts.tar.Z (98 Kb), which also includes a Makefile to convert from the ASCII .bdf format to other binary font formats.

PostScript Fonts

vnlpr.tar.Z package includes PostScript Type-1 version of 7 TriChlor basic fonts (as listed in vnfont1 and vnfont2) under the names pr_*.ps.

PS.tar.Z package contains fixed-width PostScript Type-3 fonts initcour.ps and initcourb.ps for various uses (such as printing plain text VISCII files in PostScript, see the vnpstext.tar.Z package).

groff_fonts.tar.Z package includes PostScript Type-1 version of 7 TriChlor basic fonts for use with GNU's groff.

TrueType Fonts

tt1_unix.tar (553 Kb) contains AnhMinh TrueType fonts in regular, bold, italic, and bold italic formats. Thus especially suitable to read Web pages in VISCII in Unix. Author: B.T. Vu

TeX/LaTeX Fonts

vncmr.mf.tar.Z (90 Kb) -- Metafont program files to generate Vietnamese fonts for use under TeX/LaTeX in both Unix and DOS. Author: Cuong T. Nguyen. Released 1991.

vncmr.pk.tar.Z (2364 Kb) -- pre-made bitmapped fonts generated by the Metafont programs in vncmr.mf.tar.Z. Author: Cuong T. Nguyen. Released 1991.

These two packages as well as other related files are archived at haydn.stanford.edu under /VN/sources/fonts/tex/.

vncmr-2.2.tar.gz -- metafonts supporting both VISCII and MacVISCII. Used with TeX or LaTeX2e version <1996/06/01> or later. Modified from Cuong T. Nguyen's 1991-vncmr package Available from the CTAN network and its mirrors. Author: Werner Lemberg . Released May 1996.

Note the new LaTeX2e is available in teTeX, a TeX distribution for UNIX compatible systems. It is available in source form and binaries precompiled for many popular platforms. Binary installation is straightforward. Type

on a Unix system to see ftp sites. Usually,
